Hospitality Project

Design Brief

This project asked to design a “speakeasy” bar centered on analogue socializing and immersive face-to-face experiences based on a real space in St. John’s Wood, London.

The design reflected the historical spirit of speakeasies as hidden, intimate spaces for social gatherings, while creating an exciting, welcoming atmosphere. The brief required that the space include a bar on both the ground floor and basement, a commercial kitchen that served the bar’s menu, an accessible WC on the ground floor and an office for bar management.

Hidden Society

When I thought about the ideas of “underground” and “speakeasy,” I envisioned a time that felt hidden, exclusive, and slightly forbidden. This led me to research Chinese gambling houses and social clubs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Analogue is a contemporary underground salon inspired by the legacy of Chinese gambling houses and discreet social societies — places where gathering unfolded just beyond the visible city, shaped by discretion, camaraderie, and the subtle thrill of the night. Within its low-lit rooms, conversation lingers, games spark laughter, and the night unfolds with a sense of intimacy and quiet thrill.
